About Darcelle Murray: Darcelle is 23 years old and from the Windy City of Chicago, Illinois. She has three disabilities: a learning disability, hearing loss in the left ear, and a mild case of sleep apnea. The sleep apnea plays a big part in her life, because she sleeps most of the day and is more awake at night. Everybody nicknames her vampire because she sleeps so late. She has been dancing since the age of three, and has danced many styles, including jazz, tap, modern, praise, hip-hop, and West African—but what she is best at is ballet. She started pointe at the age of 13, and has studied at the following dance schools: Stairway of the Stars, CSU Dance Team, Russell Tablet Dance Studio, Homer Bryant Ballet and The Hyde Park School of Ballet. She also taught children at The Chicago Park District Summer Program. She has taken dance at Columbia College and is currently taking dance at Joel Hall. In her spare time, she likes dance, modeling, beauty pageants, and reading the Harry Potter and Twilight series. Right now, she attends Harold Washington College, where she will graduated in the spring with her Associate in Arts Degree. She looks forward to continuing her education with a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts, while majoring in Dance Teaching and minor in Business. Her goal is to open up her own dance studio and to be a dance teacher for people with disabilities so that they can feel special and unique in their own way, just as she now feels about herself today.
